Unicorn Tales Newsletter No 4

Fellow Unicorns the season is on! The seniors play Powerhouse at home from 12 noon (although the Colts are playing on Fawkner at 1.30pm) so please get out and support our teams. Powerhouse will be keen for an early win and to knock us off so close to Anzac day so we need to have plenty of noise on the sidelines.

All is going well at training and we have been doing well in the trial games so we are looking good for a great season.

At this stage of the season we need money to purchase all the gear we need to support our mighty teams in their pursuit for premierships, so I urge everyone to please get in and pay their subs. Also, if anyone is interested in becoming a sponsor or participating in the “Friends of the MRUFC” program, please let me know.

The clubhouse is open on Thursday nights with a great food and drink deal for $8 so come down and have a chat to your fellow supporters.

Finally, I would like to formally thank our Junior Coordinator, Kate Webb who has resigned from the Committee due to family commitments. Kate has been a stalwart of the juniors and has put a tremendous effort into increasing junior numbers and improving their standard of pay over many years. So heartfelt thanks to Kate and I hope we will see you at the club for a drink or two.

TryRugby a Huge hit at Melbourne Rugby

As Darryl Eastlake would say “What a HUUUUGE night was had at the rugby last night”, Tuesday 28th March, for the start of this seasons TryRugby program at MRUFC.

The night ran pretty smoothly (only a couple of hiccups early) with well over 30 new players coming along to give our great game a go and enjoy a free BBQ afterwards.

We had players as young as four years old giving it a go, and with out exception at the end of the night there was a unanimous cry of we had HUGE fun and will be back next week to do it all over again.

And it is not too late to join!, so if you missed out on all the fun last night get all your friends together and come down next Tuesday night to Romanis Oval (Our training ground) from 5.00pm to 6.30pm.

The program is open to new and current players of all ages, this is a 5 week program hosted by the ARU and run by trained instructors at our ground.

This is an outstanding way to kickstart the season, will increase skills and confidence and is a lot of fun.

You can register on the night for $60 which includes ARU backpack with ball, cap and a water bottle and a free BBQ afterwards, or on-line for $50 at www.rugby.com.au and follow the TryRugby prompts.

As an extra incentive any player (new or old) that brings a friend along to TryRugby will get a prize!

So pass this email along to everyone and anyone you know who maybe interested in giving rugby a try.

See you all next Tuesday night for a HUGE night of TryRugby. For any further information call Kate 0412 728 079

Play Rugby this season with Melbourne Rugby

Do you love your Rugby Union? Do you live in Melbourne Australia? Are you aged over six years (we have people playing in their forties!)?

Then come an play rugby for Melbourne Rugby Club. Melbourne Rugby Union Football Club is one of the two oldest clubs in Victoria (the other being Melbourne University Rugby Football Club). Officially established in 1926, some 38 years after the first game of rugby was played in Victoria, under the 'Melbourne Rugby Union' banner. The first rugby union games were played in Victoria were in 1888. Three games are recorded as being played that year:- one against an English touring team and two against a New Zealand Maoris side. All three resulted in losses - but the game they play in heaven had arrived in Victoria.

Melbourne Rugby has teams from Under 6's thru to 1st Grade, in the VRU (Victorian Rugby Union) premier division competition.
