This week’s round of rugby is bestsummed up with a quote from CliveWoodward – former England rugby unioncoach:

“it’s not always about winning. It’s aboutattitude and working together as a team.”
Not all of the teams on the weekend won,but they all played as a team, with greatheart and intensity. As the last line in ourclub song says ‘Melbourne is the greatestrugby team’.

I would like to take this opportunity towelcome on board Cadbury-Schweppesas our new major junior sponsor. Theirsupport of our club, and in particular ourjunior program is much appreciated.

There are a couple of events coming upwhich I would like to draw your attentionto, first is the inaugural VRU “Father andSon” Youth Rugby Dinner on 16th Juneat St. Kevin’s College. The Other event isthe Weary Dunlop Club Pre Test MatchLunch on Thursday 15th June 2006, at theCrown Palladium Ballroom. The club is looking to organise a table atboth these events, so if you are interestedread the details on pages 10 and 11 andlet David Kennedy know asap.

It has also come to my attention over thelast few weeks (particularly amongst thejuniors) that mouthguards are being left athome, etc. It is important thatmouthguards are worn at all levels of oursport. If you are not convinced I urge youto read the article entitled “Why wear amouthguard?” on page 10.

Just reminding you all, especially alljunior families that the clubhouse isopen on Thursday nights with a greatfood and drink deal for $8 ($5 forjuniors) so come down and have a chatto your fellow supporters, it savescooking dinner for the troops when youget home!

Dear Prospective Sponsor

Dear Prospective Sponsor,

Melbourne Rugby Union Football Club is one of the two oldest clubs in Victoria, officially established in 1926. From those humble beginnings we have evolved into a major local community sports organisation with over 300 members.

Building on the clubs motto ‘never a step backwards’, continued growth of our club is part of our continuing commitment to provide the local community, both senior and junior, with a rewarding Rugby Union experience.

It is with these thoughts in mind that we turn to our local business community for support. Your support through sponsorship, will allow us to provide a high quality Rugby Union program, while maintaining reasonable registration costs. In return, your business name will be prominently associated with the positive values of Melbourne Rugby Club and Rugby within Victoria.

There are several sponsorship levels for you to choose from and we are grateful for any level you select. All of our sponsors are recognised on our website, within our weekly newsletters, during games and at tournaments we participate in throughout the season.

In addition, we encourage all of our membership to support our sponsors for their interest in promoting our efforts within the local community.

Please take the time to read the accompanying sponsorship proposal. If you have any questions or wish to discuss our sponsorship proposal in further detail, please contact one of the sponsorship contacts. We are looking forward to your partnership and becoming part of our team.

Well we won four out of the five games played last weekend, which is not bad in anyone’s books!

But let’s make it seven out of seven this weekend.Speaking of this weekend, we have a number of games at our home ground starting at 9.00am with the Under 12’s, so why not come on down and support your club.Whilst we are on the topic of supporting the club, check out our new club merchandise which is now on sale.

The first of our President’s Lunches was held last weekend, and was a HUGE success. We raised over $7,000 for the club. On behalf of the club, I would like to again thank our guest speaker Dr Lee Naylor, and all those involved in making the day happen.

Just a reminder, the clubhouse is open onThursday nights with a great food and drink deal for $8 so come down and have a chat to your fellow supporters.See you at the games on the weekend.
